We believe that engaged parents are fundamental to all our pupils successfully reaching their full potential and to our vision to become one of the best international schools in the world. We are lucky enough to supportive parents, pupils and staff who regularly give up their time to support the school and enhance our pupils learning.
There are many opportunities for new families to get involved at BSM.
Each class in the Primary school nominates a Class Representative who helps to organise volunteer rotas and liaise with the teacher. They also help the teacher to welcome new children and families to the class. This contact can be extremely helpful, particularly on arrival in Muscat. Class links are recruited at the end of the summer term.
Parent representation on our board of governors is a key element of ensuring an effective relationship between the school and the parent body. Parent representatives are elected by BSM parents every two years.
Building on the success of our class links network we have established a home links network. Home links are volunteer parents who act as a point of contact for families new to for example Home Link for Canada or Home Link for Egypt.
Our pupils can greatly benefit from the knowledge and experience of our community. If you are interested in supporting either our curriculum or pastoral programme please contact our volunteer coordinator.
The PFA (Parent and Friends Association)
The BSM Parents and Friends Association (PFA) is similar to a Parent Teacher Association (PTA) that is found in many schools around the world. The PFA undertake a range of activities throughout the year to raise funds for the school.
Volunteer in the classroom or on trips
On many occasions, particularly in the Primary school, teaching staff invite parents into the classroom to engage with children to support them with learning and when going on class trips. Please contact our volunteer coordinator if you would like to be notified of volunteering opportunities.
Work experience opportunities & careers fairs
All our Year 10 students and many Year 12s and 13s undertake work experience with local employers. We also host an annual careers fair to encourage our students to explore the options open to them for their international futures. This is an invaluable part of their preparation for their prospective careers. If you would like to support this programme please contact our careers advisor.
Working at BSM
We have many vacancies throughout the year which may be of interest to parents. More information is available in the Careers at BSM section.
