How to apply
for a place

We welcome applications at all points of the school year.
Before applying for you place, please make sure you have read the following documents:

To apply for a place at BSM we require the following documents to be completed:

In addition, please send us the following information:

  • Copy of child’s passport
  • Recent passport style photograph of child.
  • Latest school report if applicable.
  • Copy of parents’ passport and residence card (if available)

Entry Requirements

Our teaching is based on the English National Curriculum and all lessons are taught in English.

We have limited resources to support children with English as an additional language or special education needs. We will only offer places when we are sure we are able to provide sufficient support to enable a child to fully access the curriculum.

Please read below for the entry requirements for each year group:

Foundation Stage 1 and 2

All children must speak English at an appropriate level to access the curriculum. Please read our guidance on how to support your child to develop English as an Additional Language.

Children must complete a successful assessment day with the school when they are in Muscat.

Children must be completely independent when going to the toilet.

Year 1-6

All children must speak English at an appropriate level to access the curriculum.

Children have to demonstrate that they understand the English language and can respond with the correct level of spoken English.

Please read our guidance on how to support your child to develop English as an Additional Language.

Children applying for Years 1-6 must take a cognitive ability test (CAT).

Year 1 – Children will complete a simple phonics assessment, verbal reasoning test, draw a picture and write their name.
Year 2 – Children will complete two short cognitive ability tests and a piece of independent writing.
Year 3-6 – Children will complete three cognitive ability tests and a piece of independent writing.

Special Education Needs – Whilst we have an established Inclusion team providing targeted support we are not able to meet the needs of all children with learning difficulties. Also, our school site is not accessible to children with significant physical disabilities. It is therefore important for you to contact us if you have any concerns.

Children must have a positive supporting reference from their previous school.

Children must complete a successful interview with the school when they are in Muscat.

Year 7-11

All children must speak English at an appropriate level to access the curriculum.

Children applying for a place in the Senior School will be assessed using the Common European Reference Framework (CEFR) for languages.

Please read our guidance on how to support your child to develop English as an Additional Language.

Children applying for Year 7-11 must take a cognitive ability test (CAT).

Special Education Needs – Whilst we have an established Inclusion team providing targeted support we are not able to meet the needs of all children with learning difficulties. Sixth Form - Year 12

Fluency in English – Students applying for a place in the Senior School will be assessed using the Common European Reference Framework (CEFR) for languages and should have CAE/IELTS Level C1-C2.

Minimum grades – Students must achieve a minimum of 5 A*- C at GCSE. All students must have a minimum of grade C in GCSE English Language and Mathematics. Other qualifications will be considered on a case by case basis.

Subject specific entry criteria – There are minimum entry requirements for each A Level subject set by the respective Head of Department. In addition to GCSE results, some departments may require students to sit assessment tests to gain entry to specific courses.

Reference – Students must have a positive supporting reference from their previous school.

Interview – Students must complete a successful interview with the school (including Heads of department) when they are in Muscat.

Sixth Form - Year 13

Students wishing to join Year 13 will be considered on a case by case basis.
