......Key Stage 5 GCE A Level Results 2008

At GCE AS Level (usually sat in Year 12) and GCE A Level (usually sat in Year 13), grades A – E are a pass and the percentage achieved by a school is a measure of
performance. Additional measures are the percentage of A & B grades and the Average Point Score (APS). APS is calculated by awarding a set number of points per grade; with A attracting the highest number of points and E the lowest. The average is then calculated. Our results are:

GCE AS Level % A-E A&B APS
BSM 95 49 108.0
National *85 *31 *88.6
Difference 10 18 19.4

*We have no 2008 GCE AS national results yet so I have used the 2007 results, which will be similar.

GCE AS Level % A-E A&B APS
BSM 100 59 230.5
National 97 51 217.9
Difference 3 8 12.6

Exemplary Standards at GCE – Straight As

Of the 24 Year 13 students who completed their GCE A Level studies in June 2008, five (20.8%) gained straight A grades and four of these gained four A Levels rather than the usual three. Isabel Wassing also gained a full GCE A Level at the end of Year 12, which brings her total of grade As gained at BSM to five.
