Foundation Stage 2 (FS2) Basics
Our aim is to make your child’s time in FS2 an exciting, stimulating and enjoyable experience which will establish the skills necessary for successful learning and development and will also inspire within them the joy of discovery and the desire to know more.
The Early Years are a crucial time in your child’s life, ideas and attitudes laid down at this stage will have a profound effect on their approach to future learning. We look to provide all children with a world class learning environment in which they feel safe, secure and valued.
|What are the timings of the school day?||7.25am – 12.30pm|
|Where do children learn?||3 classrooms (with 1 teacher and 1 inclusion assistant in each),
1 shared classroom,
1 shaded outdoor learning area
|Where should I collect my child at the end of the day?||Children should be collected from their classrooms (please use the gate closest to Foundation Stage when collecting).|
|What do children need to bring to school?||School bag, Snacks and water,
Spare clothes including socks and underwear,
Crocs (or similar footwear)
|Can my child borrow books?||Foundation Stage have a library session each week. Children will take out a book and return it the following week.|
What will FS2 pupils learn?
The Foundation Stage Curriculum consists of 7 areas of learning:
1. Personal, social and emotional development
2. Communication and language
3. Physical development
4. Literacy: We follow Ruth Misking’s Read Write Inc scheme for phonics.
6. Understanding the world
7. Expressive arts and design
Characteristics of Effective Learning
We want your child to be an effective learner. In order to do this we know that certain attitudes and skills will enable them to both engage more in the learning opportunities available and make good progress. The new curriculum asks us to specifically look for, encourage and develop these traits and attitudes.
To support your child in developing The Characteristics of Effective Learning outlined in the Revised Early Years Foundation Stage document we have devised our 6Rs. Behaviour and Rewards
We have a consistent approach across Nursery and Reception to encouraging good behaviour including praise and rewards, class rules, warnings and thinking time.
Each day a child will be chosen as the ‘Star of the Day’ – rewards are not only for academic achievements, they can also be for behaviours including listening, being a good friend or making good choices.
We use a stop, think, talk and make up approach to handling conflict.
