Additional Support for Learning Needs

The highly experienced Primary Inclusion team at BSM supports children in the four areas of learning; speech and communication, cognition and learning, emotional/behavioural, sensory and physical. We provide targeted support and advice with the aim of helping pupils become independent learners so that they can participate fully in the academic and social life of the school.

How are pupils supported?

There are several Learning Support ‘Zones’ in the school but the main hub is the ‘Learning Haven’ where pupils are encouraged to apply themselves in a peaceful but purposeful environment.  Small groups of pupils participate in auditory stimulation interventions, phonics games, motor, handwriting and literacy programmes.

Through a programme of tailored support, the progress of pupils is carefully monitored and recorded, with consultation and feedback to parents being a vital and integral part of the learning process.

We work with specialists including speech therapists, educational psychologists and occupational therapists both in Oman and overseas to provide the best support and assessment for our pupils within our international context.  We are also committed to an on-going programme of professional development to ensure we base our work on evidence-based research and UK best practice.

We strive to be as open and inclusive as possible. However, at present, we are unable to provide one to one support on a full-time basis for any one pupil, hence we may not be able to support pupils with significant difficulties or complex needs requiring such assistance.  Prospective and existing parents can contact the Inclusion team for further information or advice.

Language for Learning

Our pupils represent over 60 nationalities making our classrooms diverse, multi-cultural learning environments.  We celebrate this diversity at the same time as realising that some pupils may need extra support to fully access the curriculum at BSM.  Our staff are extremely experienced in supporting children who speak two or more languages. Pupils receive support both within the classroom and in separate specialist classes as necessary.

Admissions
