Student Leadership

Student Leadership

Pupils at BSM are presented with a wide range of leadership opportunities. These range from taking on roles of responsibility in the classroom or around school to key elected positions. Each year our School Council representatives and House Captains are elected by their peers.

Our Primary School Council holds fortnightly meetings to discuss key aspects of school life and share feedback they have received from pupils. They play an important role in seeking solutions to help make the school even better. In recent years the School Council led the consultation on possible changes to the school uniform and also worked with architects Jestico and Whiles, to identify the priorities which helped shape our facilities masterplan.

Our House Captains are visable around the school and help out at key events. Perhaps their most significant role is in providing leadership and support during a number of inter-house competitions such as swimming galas and sports days.

In addition to these roles pupils who show aptitude and leadership skills in a particular subject can also aspire to becoming a young leader, sports leader, dance leader, language ambassador or eco warrior.

British School Muscat, in collaboration with the Council for British International Schools (COBIS) is piloting a new student leadership programme this academic year.

Based on the principles of the COBIS Programme for Middle Leadership (staff) in schools, British School Muscat is developing a Student Leadership programme which will see students undertake a leadership role in school which focuses on a specific and real area of school improvement, but most importantly which supports them to learn about leadership in the process. Through this programme we aim to give students real and meaningful responsibility in order to have a genuine impact on school life, as well as develop valuable skills for the 21st Century.

If you are in Years 5-6 and would like to apply, please complete the application form found here. Years 10-13 should see the Senior Student Leadership page
