Year 1 Basics

What are the timings of the school day? Sunday - Wednesday 7:30am - 1:30pm
Thursday 7:30am - 1:15pm
What equipment does my child need? School bag
Personal organiser (will be handed out at school)
Kit for specialist lessons (eg: PE, swimming)

Communication

Parents will receive weekly notices from the school with all essential information. The personal organiser can be used as a way for parents to communicate with the class teacher or to make an appointment to see the relevant class teacher or specialist. Feel free to make an appointment at any time during the term.

Homework

Homework in Key Stage 1 comprises of daily reading, numeracy passport targets and in the later phases of phonics - weekly spellings.

Structured Play

Children learn through experience and investigating.  In activity time they will develop their thinking skills through problem solving. Through activities such as drawing, painting and construction they will develop their fine and gross motor skills. There will be a range of activities to help develop their understanding of the world around them.

A spider works hard and keeps on trying even if they find something tricky and they don’t get it right the first time.   Bees try to solve problems in different ways, using what they know and getting things to help them.   A cat always has a go at their learning or new experiences and is proud of who they are.
