The Board Of Governors

The Royal Charter states that the governance of the School shall reside with the Board of Governors. The Board is composed of representatives of the School's community: business people, parents and teachers. In this way, all stakeholders can participate in the governance of the School. The Board's primary concern is with strategic intent, while the daily operation of the School is delegated to the Principal. The Board holds regular surgeries for parents and also communicates regularly through the School's newsletter.

Staff

Teaching staff at The British School-Muscat are motivated and conscientious; all have UK-recognised qualifications and have wide and recent experience of teaching in the British tradition. Staff update their skills and knowledge of new developments throughout the school year, and take advantage of residential training courses during the summer break. We have an excellent team of support staff, which includes those in the school office, the classroom assistants, the medical team and the maintenance department, all of whom work hard to ensure you and your children receive the best possible service.

Pupils

Our community includes children from over 50 countries and non-British pupils account for nearly half of the School population. The pupils form a delightfully open, friendly and talented school body. Our students are prepared to meet or exceed the highest standards as they move on to the next phase in their education, wherever in the world that may be. On leaving The British School-Muscat, students go on to destinations in North America, the Far East, Australia, Africa, the Gulf, the Indian sub-continent and, of course, Europe.

Parents

Children learn best with the integrated support of school and home and we recognise the enormous contribution that parents make to the education process. We maintain contact with parents through a number of routes: informal chats, regular consultation meetings, written reports, homework and reading diaries. The Class Links in Primary School and Class Contacts in Senior School welcome new families and help parents and class teachers communicate with each other. We encourage parents participation in school events and voluntary work within the school. Parents' help with After School Activities or day and residential visits is especially welcomed.

Parents are encouraged to discuss their child's progress with his or her teachers, or other appropriate staff, including the Heads of School. The names of staff with pastoral and academic supervision responsibilities are given to parents at the beginning of each school year.

We have a strong and active Parent Teacher Association (PTA), which provides much appreciated social and financial support for the school. The range of activities includes discos for children of all ages, quiz nights for parents, and fairs with children's games and market stalls of all descriptions. The PTA organises a hugely successful May Ball each year which gives us all a chance to turn out in our finery for a night of fun, and raises funds for school improvements.
