Message from Senior School

Welcome to the Senior School

The British School – Muscat's Senior School is a vibrant, multi-cultural community made up of students from currently thirty-eight different nationalities. Our staff and students are united by the medium of the English language in a caring, friendly and happy atmosphere which resonates throughout our school.

In recent years, the Senior School has grown considerably both in terms of the number of students on role and the breadth of courses on offer to our students. However, by ensuring that class sizes are kept low, the quality of education we offer to our students is first class.

Our public examination results are outstanding. In the 2009 - 2010 academic year, 90% of our Year 11 students attained 5 GCSEs graded A* to C. At 'A' Level, 70% of grades awarded to our students were A* to B.

The environment that we live in is changing daily. The world that awaits our students may well have changed beyond recognition once they leave our school for pastures new. At the British School - Muscat, we recognise this and ensure that the teaching and learning experience of all our students reflects ever-changing global issues. Students at The British School - Muscat learn from all those around them and are encouraged to learn independently in order to develop a life-long love of learning.

Our students enter universities around the world and need a broad and balanced education. At the British School - Muscat, we offer a rich tapestry of extra-curricular activities. Our students compete in local and international sports competitions, participate in The Model United Nations, go scuba diving and are involved in a huge array of musical activities. The annual Activities Week gives our students the opportunity to participate in an expedition to Borneo and a field trip to northern France. We also organise residential programmes in Oman. All our students study PHSE and have the opportunity to discuss their future careers with our Careers Advisor.

I hope you find this website a useful guide to the teaching and learning which takes place in the Senior School.
