The Art & Design Department at The British School Muscat is always bursting at the seams with creative students and increasing numbers opting for the subject to study at GCSE, AS and A2 Level. The department continues to be an exciting, busy and colourful area within the school, where you will find students of all ages, from Key Stage 3 through to Sixth Form, enjoying the creative atmosphere and meeting friendly staff during formal lessons and after school activities. The 2 members of skilled teaching staff in the department consisting of Mrs Connor and Mrs Rogers, work extremely hard to create such a pleasant, contented, happy and well organised environment in which to learn.

Rachel Connor - Head of Art & Design

Hello! Welcome to the Senior School Art & Design Web Page. My name is Rachel Connor and I am the Head of Department for Art & Design here at the school. Over the last eight years I have built up the department based on the philosophy of students creative visual development, excellence and a good sprinkling of fun and enjoyment! Year on year I have encouraged my colleagues and students to ‘push the boundaries’ of visual education. This has led to a progression of exceptional examination results at every level and students who have left the school with the confidence and independence to progress in their chosen creative fields at Art Schools, Colleges and Universities throughout the world. Life is not ‘all work and no play!’ I personally enjoy my life outside the confinements of the Art & Design Department in many other various ways. My pastimes include Computer Graphics and Desktop Publishing (I design most of the schools graphic work and other out of school commissions); Singing (you may have heard my efforts at various School Balls and functions); and last but not least I am a keen golfer! A sport that has entered my life since being in Oman, which allows me the relaxation and fun I sometimes require after a busy teaching schedule. There is no doubt that Art & Design students at The British School Muscat are a pleasure and a joy to teach. After a career spanning many years as an Art & Design lecturer at Art Colleges in the UK, I am pleased to spend my time encouraging BSM students to explore the rich creative visual vocabulary that is Art & Design.
