Hi, My name is Sallianne Smales and I am the Primary Art and Design and Design Technology teacher for the Primary School. I am also a Year Two class teacher.
At the British School we believe that the arts provide our children with opportunities to help shape and understand the world in which they live irrespective of their background, culture and ability. Enjoyment of the foundation subjects such as Art and Design and Design Technology is central to our ethos of teaching as well as motivating and raising children’s self esteem.
In the Primary School, Years One to Six follow the learning outcomes from the QCA National Curriculum for Art and Design and Design Technology. Each year group will adapt these units and integrate them into their own topic work.
The Foundation Stage in the British School follows the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. One of the six areas of learning is Creative Development.
Throughout the Primary School the children will learn a variety of skills in Art and Design through a wide variety of media.

The Primary School liaise closely with the Secondary Art and Design Department and the Design Technology Department, particularly on issues relating to transition from Key Stage Two to Key Stage Three.
The Primary School also like to look for opportunities to foster positive relations with external establishments such as the Al Madina Art Gallery and the National Hospitality Institute.
