Welcome to Primary French! Pupils at BSM have been learning French in Primary for many years now. They begin with an Introduction to French in Year 2, learning through songs, games and practical activities. More formal lessons start in Year 3, when we use the highly acclaimed ‘Rigolo’ programme, designed to meet the needs of the Framework for Modern Foreign Languages in a dynamic and interactive way. For details of each term’s curriculum, please refer to the (hyperlink to Termly Curriculum Newsletters).
Please use the links below to find out more about the work covered in each year group.

Bienvenue - Welcome to the Primary French page at BSM.
My name is Mrs Rosie Kolster (although you might hear your child talking about Madame Kolster as they address me in French during lessons!) and I teach French to all the children from Year 2 to Year 6, and have been doing so for more years than I have fingers to count! My classroom is located in the Key Stage 2 playground and I like to call it the ‘French Chalet’, although it’s never seen any snow, sadly…
As you will see from the year group links, we introduce French in Year 2, through the medium of songs, games, stories and activities, then from Year 3 to Year 6 we use the highly popular teaching programme ‘Rigolo’. The interactive activities are woven around a story of an English family, Mr and Mrs Mills and their children Jake and Polly, who have emigrated to France and go to live in the mysterious and magical Château Rigolo, where strange things happen! They meet Didier, Natalie, Olivier and Bof the dragon, as well as the rather evil-looking Madame Moulin who is the castle caretaker, and each unit follows their antics in their new home and school. If you click on the links you will find details of the curriculum content for each unit for each year group.
Look out for the links to sound files!
