Specialists - Geography

Introduction

Welcome to the BSM Geography department. Geography is an ambitious and unique subject that aims to learn about the past in order to understand the present in order to plan for the future. It is a discipline which uniquely links with the arts and sciences in order for students to place into context the world in which they live.
The department has several aims:

  • To inspire students’ to think critically about their place in the world in order to create responsible citizens, prepared for life in the 21st century
  • To create successful geographers, with a sense of wonder about the world.
  • To make Geography enjoyable and relevant to the lives of BSM students.

The staff involved in the BSM Geography department are passionate about their subject and as such have developed courses which convey such enthusiasm. This section aims to inform you of the splendid work that the department does in a dramatic learning environment that is Oman. Take up of GCSE Geography is one of the highest of the optional subjects and results for GCSE, AS and A2 have consistently outperformed the schools overall results.

Each year group has a fieldtrip in order to encourage student to apply their classroom knowledge to the world around them. Year 12 students are offered the opportunity to attend a residential field trip at Juniper Hall in Surrey.
