Specialists - Gymnastics

Hello! Welcome to Gymnastics at BSM. My name is Louise Granger, as part of the PE department I head up the development of Gymnastics through the school.
Prior to training as a PE, I spent many years working within the sports industry and sports development. I have been BG (British Gymnastics) trained coach working within gymnastics clubs for 13 years. My gymnastics coaching qualifications include Level 3 General Gymnastics, Level 2 Womens Artistic Gymnastics and Level 2 Trampolining.

Gymnastics is delivered within the PE curriculum from reception to Key Stage 4 giving pupils the opportunity to develop fundamental skills throughout. Gymnastics has become a focus area for strategic development in PE based on the philosophy of developing core body management and physical literacy skills that are transferable to all sports as well as being key to a healthy and active lifestyle through the medium of gymnastics.

Over the last year we have expanded the provision of extracurricular gymnastics and currently have over 120 primary school pupils of all abilities taking part in the ‘just for fun’ after school sessions.  Following on from this popularity we have recently launched Trampolining in the senior school programme, with our first somersaults and barani’s coming thick and fast!

We are fortunate to have great links with the British and Middle East Gymnastics Associations. This has assisted us greatly in developing coaching expertise further and giving some of the senior school pupils the opportunity to take their first trampoline/gymnastics coaching award in September following a visit from one of British Gymnastics senior tutors (and ex National Coach!)

As part of the strategic development in this area BSM kindly supports and facilitates the first Community Gymnastics Club in Muscat, with the aim of providing a gymnastics pathway in the city! Further details on the community club to follow shortly (website currently under construction)
