At BSM the school follows the QCA scheme of work for ICT to implement National Curriculum requirements.
Children enjoy a weekly timetabled whole class lesson with the ICT Specialist teacher in an ICT suite equipped with 22 networked, Win 7 computers and an Interactive Whiteboard.
Other information technologies used include, digital video cameras, audio recorders, data loggers, electronic microscopes, controlled robots and sensors.
There is also a Primary Computer Room equipped with 22 networked, Win 7 computers, printer, scanner and an Interactive Whiteboard. This room is used with the class teacher to allow the access of ICT across the curriculum.
All class rooms have access to Win 7 PC’s, Interactive Whiteboards, printers, videos / DVDs and other ICT equipment in order that ICT can be used to enrich other areas of learning.
Some children will have had previous experience with ICT, while for others their use of ICT will have been limited. ICT lessons are therefore planned to acquire skills and also to develop interest and understanding according to age and abilities of the children.
Children are taught how to use a variety of software packages and ICT equipment, the Internet and e-mail.
Over the coming 2011-2012year the Primary School will be introducing and trialling a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) from ‘My Learning UK’ (www.mylearningltd.co.uk). This will enable parents to help and support their child, at home, with similar learning activities to those which they complete in school.
More information about the BSM Primary VLE can be found here
