Specialists - Swimming

Swimming is a sport that encourages the development of physical fitness and health advancement and, with this in mind, The British School - Muscat swimming programme is designed for pupils from Nursery level to Year 9 of the school.

Lessons are given to all ages and standards within these year groups on a weekly basis; the curriculum is designed to develop their technique in each stroke so as to enable the children to swim confidently and efficiently, ensuring that they are able to be assessed using the Water Skills, Swimming Challenge Awards and the National Swimming Awards of the Amateur Swimming Association of the UK. Opportunities are being developed to introduce extra-curricular sessions for students from Year 10 to 13 in areas of fitness and lifeguarding

In line with these physical advantages to the sport, being a member of the Marlins swim team offers the opportunity to discover, enjoy - and conquer - the realm of competition. In due course, swimmers learn life long skills such as effective time management, dedication, goal-setting, cooperation and team spirit - all of which transfer to a successful adult life. In the spirit of internationalism, the Marlins participate in events organised throughout the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and beyond at National Championships in their home countries; in doing so they meet and compete with swimmers from varied cultures and backgrounds.

Welcome to the swimming section of the BSM website.

In this area you will find links to both the curriculum swimming programme and to information related to the Marlins swim team programme.

The curriculum section explains how our programme compares to the National Curriculum of the UK and gives details related to the criteria that we use for assessing the overall ability levels of the all those children who participate in swimming lessons as part of their Physical Education at BSM. The Marlins section includes results, statistics, records, record breakers, team lists training times and time standards related to competitive swimming.
